Errors and calibration
A calibration line: fit standards, check the residuals, and find an unknown with its uncertainty.
Open the interactive simulation →How to use this simulation
- Set the instrument noise and number of standards; press “Remake standards”.
- Set the unknown absorbance and replicate readings.
- Read the slope, intercept, detection limit and the unknown ± uncertainty.
- Check that the residuals scatter randomly.
What to notice
- More replicates and more standards shrink the uncertainty.
- R² near 1 does not prove the line is right — look at the residuals.
