Molecule builder
Draw any molecule; it relaxes into its 3D shape and is checked for a valid Lewis structure.
Open the interactive simulation →How to use this simulation
- Pick an element from the palette. Click empty space to place it; click an atom to grow a bonded atom.
- Use the Bond tool to change single, double or triple bonds; use Delete to remove atoms.
- Press “Fill H” to add hydrogens, then “Flatten & relax” to tidy the shape.
- Or load a ready molecule from the “Molecules” list (H₂O, CH₄, SF₆ …).
- Read the “Check” and “Inspect” panels: formula, molar mass, polarity, shape and hybridisation.
What to notice
- Lone pairs push harder than bonding pairs, so H₂O is bent and NH₃ is pyramidal.
- A molecule with polar bonds can still be non-polar if the dipoles cancel (CO₂).
Try this
Build CO₂ and H₂O. Why is one polar and the other not?
