Reaction energy profile
The energy profile of a reaction: reactants climb over a barrier and fall to products.
Open the interactive simulation →How to use this simulation
- Open the “Energy” panel of the Reaction Lab (the methane combustion example is loaded).
- Find the activation energy (the hump) and ΔH (the drop from start to finish).
- Then load the H₂O₂ + MnO₂ experiment and see how a catalyst lowers the hump.
What to notice
- Exothermic: products end lower than reactants.
- A catalyst lowers the hump but does not change ΔH.
